We draw attention to the transcription of this letter. The spelling system is more phonetic than "official". The language and pronunciation of the writer's home region are well reflected in his writing. We leave the understanding of some words to the perspicacity of readers.
Chamamos a atenção para a transcrição desta carta. O sistema gráfico é mais fonético que “oficial”. Na sua escrita espelha-se bem a linguagem e pronúncia da sua região de origem. Deixamos a compreensão de algumas palavras à perspicácia dos leitores.

Mr Antonio, you don't know me and neither do I know you. But I was with a lad from that parish3 who is here in this land of France, and he told me that Mr Antonio Abróba had a daughter who had seen our Lady, and he told me the news he had received from his family. Which filled me with faith, and he told me he was sorry not to meet up with me again to tell me what happened on the 13th of August, as the Lady [2] had promised, just as she had appeared in the previous months.
Snre Antonio bocê amim não me cunhéce nem tampouco eu o conhêço a bóce. Mas istive com um rapáz deça freguesia3 que se encontra nesta terra de frança e me contou que o Snre Antonio Abróba que tinha uma filha que tinha visto nossa Snra e contou-me as noticias que tinha recebido da familia dele. Ahonde me encheu de fé e dice-me que tinha pena não se turnár a encontrár com migo para me contar o q., se passou aos 13 de agosto cumo a Snra [2] tinha prumetido assim cumo tinha aparcido nos meses antecedentes.
Now Mr Antonio, as I haven't seen the same lad from that parish, I would like you to have the kindness to write me a few lines telling me about the apparition of August and now of this month of September. My address is the Following
Agora Snre Antonio cumo não tenho visto o mesmo rapáz dessa freguesia desijáva que vocemecê tivece abondáde de me escrebêr umas letrinhas disendo-me da aparição de Agosto e agora deste mêz de Setembro. Aminha direção é a Seguinte

I ask you, Mister Antonio, to do me the favour of writing to me, for I would like to know what our [2v] Lady has said, since I have faith in what she has said to your virtu-ous daughter.
Pecu-lhe Sinhor Antonio que me fáça o fabôr de me escrebêr que eu desijába sabêr o que nossa [2v] Sinhora tem dito pois que eu tenho fé com o que ella tem dito ha sua virtu-osa filha.
My good comrade whom I met, he seemed to be a good lad, he told me about the miracle of the Lady of the 13th of July5, that it was very hot and when she came the weather turned cool; he told me that the Lady
O meu bão camaráda com que me encontrei parcia sêr bão rapáz me contou elle do milágre da Sinhora de 13 de Julho5 de hire muito calôr e ao ella vir por-ce tempo frêsco elle me dice que a Snra que
said that everyone should pray the rosary*, that on the thirteenth of October she would perform a miracle that would be wondered at by all
dice que resa-ce todos o terço q, para trêse de Outubro q., avia de fasêr um milagre q., há de sêr ademirado por todos
Once more I ask you to tell me about the outcome of August and of September. Commend me to your daughter [2v] Lucia, for, seeing what she obtains, Our Lady will grant her wishes. I also commend to your daughter Lucia all the men of Portugal who are in this land of France. I also ask her to pray to our Lady for the perseverance of the just and for the conversion of sinners. And also to ask Our Lady For Peace and concord so that we may all have joy
Mais uma vêz lhe peço que me conte do resultádo de Agosto e de Setembro. Recumende-me há sua filha [2v] Lucia que visto ao que ella concégue Nossa Sinhôra lhe atenderá aos desejos. Recumendo - tambem ha sua filha Lucia todos os homems de Portugal que nesta terra de França se encontro. Recumendo-lhe tambem que rogue anossa Snra pela perceberança dos justos e pela comberção dos pecadôres. Assim cumo tambem lhe peça a Nossa Snra Pela Páz e concordia para que tôdos tinhamos alegria
