Most Excellent and Most Reverend Sir
Exmo Revmo Snr
What must Your Excellency have thought of my silence, when you are always so prompt in answering my letters? But the fault is not mine: I passed on your request at once, and both my husband and my son readily agreed to do as you asked; but my husband, because of his occupations, has only been able to write today, and my [1v] son, through his natural indolence, which puts off from day to day what he has to do, has not yet written the description of what he saw. But I will not let him be, and as soon as I have it I will send it to Your Excellency.
I believe what he saw made a great impression on him and perhaps inwardly did him some good, but what Your Excellency was told is unfortunately not accurate. There has not been the conversion that I so long for and ask of God, [2] of his showing himself to be, and being, a practising Christian, unafraid of what people think. Outwardly he stayed just as he was.....
How I wish I knew of proven miracles worked at Fatima
Quem me dera saber de milagres provados operados em Fatima
because I want to believe that Our Lady appeared; and at the same time last Sunday's Gospel* made an impression, and one wonders whether all these signs that have been observed might already be the beginning of the end?!
I have been very much shaken and outraged [2v] by the iniquitous treatment of the Archbishops of Braga and Evora. Might not all this be the beginning of the end of the world? May God call me to Himself before that comes.
Forgive me, Your Excellency, all my faults, and please accept the regards of my children and believe me, with every consideration,
Your Excellency's
Perdoe-me V. Exa todas as minhas faltas e queira acceitar os cumprimentos de meus filhos e crer-me com toda a consideração
De V. Exa.
most attentive, devoted and obliged
