[3] was also going to stay there a few days with Vasco so that he could rest. We shall see whether it comes true. The little one is very well; I found him much changed. Aunt Carlota went off to Cintra some 15 days ago, and I hear

say she has been doing very well. Very likely next Saturday we shall go and stay there to spend Sunday, for she is making a great fuss7 for us to go there.

As for the apparition, I heard vaguely that it happened again this 13th; my sisters8 [3v] are also very keen to go there in October. Imagine, Ramalho, who is married to Florinda Rafael9, went there and saw that cloud and the lightning flash. He says it was a lovely day and suddenly the sun10 begins to turn red and to grow dark, and then one sees a cloud come down onto the holm-oak shrub and one sees the lightning flash. Only the little girls see Our Lady. This is at noon exactly. It was my sisters who told me this [4] when I was about to go out. If I had known sooner I would have spoken with the man himself.

It is the first time I am spending my birthday away from home, so I shall feel homesick. Today I have already been thinking so much of the time when I used to wake up with my bed all decorated by you and with the presents hanging up, and the first thing I did was to give a jump so as to grow. You will al-[4v][so] certainly remember me very much and that time, and that is why I am writing to you today, so that you will at least have news of me on the 26th.

Today there is a great deal of cleaning going on here; I have to go and supervise, and so I leave you with immense longing and a big hug, your very affectionate and grateful
