On 13 June I went there for the first time, but did not arrive in time for the event; however, I spoke with the little girls in the churchyard at Fátima. I questioned them carefully and saw in them something that, it seemed to me, could not possibly be untrue. From that moment I believed that it was the Most Holy Virgin who came there.

witness [make out] what She was saying. I only heard when Lúcia said: there She goes! I heard a roar in the air. It seemed like the beginning of a thunderclap. [3] On 13 August I was present too. The little girls and the boy had been arrested. There were a great many people. At the same hours as the apparition, the heavenly bodies and the sun did the same as on the other occasions; and there was a most extraordinary sign in the heavens. On 13 September I was present too. The sun and the heavenly bodies made the same display. The people were full of excitement, looking up into the air, some saying that they saw stars, others that they saw a dove, others that they saw stars running and swallows going along with them. Everyone was excited. Still others [said] that they saw flowers falling. [4] On 13 October it rained almost all morning. Close to the hour of the apparition it stopped raining. The extraordinary things that happened in the sun! Everyone saw them who had their eyes open; whoever closed them saw nothing. And perhaps there were some who saw and said they had not, so as not to give honour to the Mother of Heaven. Whatever mistake there may have been about the war*, the extraordinary [facts] that happened there are undeniable.
