His wife asked Francisco at the Cova da Iria whether he had seen Our Lady and he said no. And she asked him whether he saw her feet. And he said no, that he only saw a very lovely radiance at her feet. Presumably he was referring to the beginning of the first apparition, when he did not yet see her, before he began to pray the rosary.

A mulher perguntou ao Francisco na Cova da Iria se tinha visto Nossa Senhora e ele disse que não. E perguntou-lhe se lhe via os pés. E ele disse que não, que só via um resplendor muito lindo nos pés. Naturalmente referia-se ao princípio da primeira aparição em que ainda a não via, antes de começar a rezar o terço.
