Our Lady has granted my wish. She deigned to give an evident sign of her apparition to the little girls of Fatima.

At noon there were at Fatima more than ninety motor cars, an endless number of carriages of all sizes, shapes and makes, and an enormous multitude of people (a great multitude ... of all nations (?)7 and tongues (?)). Everyone soaked, drenched, dripping, but cheerful.

Around noon the little girls came to the spot and began, as usual, saying the rosary. When it was over, the little ones10 asked Our Lady of the Rosary whether she would give the promised sign. Immediately the sun appeared with its circumference well defined. It comes closer [lv] as if down to the height of the clouds and begins spinning dizzily on itself like a fixed firework wheel, with some intermissions, for more than eight minutes. Everything became almost dark and everyone's features were yellowish. Everyone knelt, even in the mud.

The whole time, here and there, people were singing, praying, etc. Everyone left satisfied. The little girls said that Our Lady of the Rosary appeared. Then (when the sun gave the sign) St. Joseph appeared. The little girls said that he had said that today, or soon, the flag of peace would be raised16; that they should say the rosary, for soon our troops would be here; that they should do penance, that they should change their lives because, otherwise, the world would come to an end.

Português (original)

Nossa Senhora fez-me a vontade.

Tudo saiu satisfeito.

Editor's notes (3)

7 The question marks are in the text.

10 C Acabado êle, perguntaram as pequenas. As can be seen, the Author refers to the seers, Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta, sometimes as as pequenas and sometimes as os pequenos, an imprecision repeated further on. Equally imprecise is the plural perguntaram (preguntaram), since only Lúcia spoke with the apparition.

16 Fr. Manuel Pereira da Silva again shows how precarious his source of information was when he attributes to St. Joseph (este dissera) the news of the end of the war. Let the reader also note the hesitation over the date. He writes: "today or soon". It can be seen that, on that very day, 13 October, different versions were already going round.

7 As interrogações são do texto.

10 C Acabado êle, perguntaram as pequenas.
