Most Excellent Sir

Exmo Sr.

[1] I write to offer Your Excellency my compliments of the season, in celebration of Holy Christmas, and also to express my wish that the new year may be a happy one for Your Excellency, rich in temporal and spiritual blessings.

Our Lady of Fátima has already worked for us the miracle of greater tranquillity. Because my farm manager, who [1v] has been and still is in danger of his life, has taken up much of my time, and what with my own ailments, I have not dealt properly with the business of consulting the directors of observatories. I would ask once again for an explanation of the difference between the phenomenon of the sun's rotation at Fátima and the one observed at T. Novas* by Dona* Maria de Jesus Raposo and the Lord Bishop of Portalegre. I should also like to know: 1st, at what [2] time of day this took place; 2nd, how long this movement lasted. For me, the war has virtually ended.

I wonder what the meaning of the word Fátima might be.

Que significação terá a palavra Fátima.

I will add that we are very worried about the very serious illness of Emilia, the wife of my son Alexandre.

I wish to contribute the greater part of the expenses that Your Excellency has incurred and continues to incur on [2v] your work on the apparitions

of Fátima. Please tell me how much Your Excellency has spent.

de Fátima. Peço me diga quanto terá gasto V Exa.

I fear that Your Excellency may not have received my long letter about the miraculous events of Fátima, which spoke of the sun and of the repeated manifestation of smoke. I have received no reply. With the greatest consideration

Your Excellency's

De V Exa
