My dear Arthur
Meu caro Arthur
Happiness and health is what I wish you; we here are well, thank God.
Only today, and with great difficulty, can I answer your letter, for my duties, which are many at present, have taken up almost all my time; forgive me.
You can, then, tell Dr. Formigão that I was beside the children the whole time, and I myself had already told him this there at Fátima; it's just that he naturally doesn't remember that he was there with me near the parish church of Fatima.
Tell him too that I am ready to give any information he may wish, for the good of our cause and the glory of God, for I am anxious to know the result of the investigations into the wonderful event of 13 October last, which someone, surely on the orders of His Eminence*, was to carry out.
Tell Dr. Formigão also that my father, Major Augusto Cardoso, is a great friend of the Doctor's father, for, as I believe, they were comrades in the militia in the old days.
Awaiting Dr. Formigão's orders and yours, please command your very good friend and most obliged
Aguardando as ordens do Snr. Dr. Formigão e as tuas dignem-se mandar no vosso mt. amigo e obgmo
Padre António Augusto Cardoso
