Most Illustrious and Most Reverend Lord

Beginning by greeting Your Most Rev. Excellency affectionately and humbly, I take the bold liberty of addressing Y. MOST REV. EXC. to set out a private matter in which Sister Lúcia de Jesus Santos is very interested, whose spiritual direction I had during the last 14 months I spent in TUY. During this last year she has still on occasion turned to me to resolve her doubts and to ask for advice. The matter is certainly no longer news to Your MOST REV. EXC., but no matter; in this way I shall fulfil my obligation.
Começando por saudar e cumprimentar afetuosa e humildemente a Sua Excelência Rev.ma tomo a ousada liberdade de me dirigir a S. EX. REV. para expôr um assunto particular no qual está muito interessada a Irmã Lúcia de Jesus Santos, cuja direção espiritual tive durante os últimos 14 meses que estive em TUY. Durante este último ano ainda alguma vez se me dirigiu a tirar as suas dúvidas e a pedir conselhos. Certamente o assunto já não é novidade para Sua EXC. REV., mas não importa, assim cumprirei a minha obrigação.
Perhaps Your MOST REV. EXC. still remembers having spoken in TUY with the writer of these lines; if not, Fr. Magalhães will be able to inform Your MOST REV. EXC.
Talvez ainda Sua EXC. REV. se lembre de ter falado em TUY com quem escreve estas linhas; no caso contrário o P. Magalhães poderá esclarecer a Sua EXC. REV.
I had hoped to be able to speak to Your MOST REV. EXC. in person during the visit promised for the first days of this month. Unfortunately it could not take place.
Esperava poder falar pessoalmente a Sua EXC. REV. na prometida visita para os primeiros dias do corrente. Infelizmente não se pode realizar.
Let this serve only as information, leaving to the prudence of Your MOST REV. EXC. the measures or means to be taken in the matter. I shall do no more than transcribe here what LÚCIA herself wrote at my request, a copy of which I have before me and keep. She begged me that her name be concealed. It is as follows; she relates it in the third person at my suggestion:
Sirva isto só de informação, deixando à prudência de Sua EXC. REV. as medidas ou meios a tomar sobre o caso. Não farei mais que trasladar para aqui o que a própria LÚCIA escreveu a meu pedido, cuja cópia tenho à vista e conservo. Rogou-me que se ocultasse o seu nome. É o seguinte: narra-o em terceira pessoa por minha indicação:
“On 17-12-1927 she went to the tabernacle to ask Jesus how she should satisfy the request made of her, whether the origin of the devotion to the Immaculate
“No dia 17-12-1927, foi junto do sacrário perguntar a Jesus como satisfaria o pedido que lhe era feito, se a origem da devoção ao Imaculado
Heart of Mary was contained in the secret that the Most Holy Virgin had entrusted to her. Jesus, in a clear voice, made her hear these words: my daughter, write what they ask of you, and everything that the Most Holy Virgin revealed to you in the apparition in which she spoke of this devotion, write that too; as for the rest of the secret, continue the silence”.
Coração de Maria estava encerrada no segredo que a Santíssima Virgem lhe tinha confiado. Jesus com voz clara fez-lhe ouvir estas palavras: minha filha, escreve o que te pedem e tudo o que te revelou a Santíssima Virgem na aparição em que falou desta devoção, escreve-o também; quanto ao resto do segredo, continua o silêncio”.
What was entrusted in 1917 on this subject is the following: She asked to be taken to heaven: the Most Holy Virgin answered: yes, Jacinta and Francisco I will take soon, but you are to stay here some time longer; Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved. He wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart; to whoever embraces it I promise salvation, and these souls will be dear to God, like flowers placed by me to adorn his throne. Am I to stay here alone?, she said sadly. No, daughter, I will never leave you; my Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.
O que em 1917 foi confiado a este respeito é o seguinte: Ela pediu para os levar para o céu: a Santíssima Virgem respondeu: sim a Jacinta e o Francisco levo-os em breve, mas tu ficas cá mais algum tempo; Jesus quer servir-se de ti para me fazer conhecer e amar. Ele quer estabelecer no mundo a devoção ao meu Imaculado Coração; a quem a abraçar prometo a salvação e serão queridas de Deus estas almas, como flores postas por mim a adornar o seu trono. Fico cá sozinha?, disse com tristeza. Não, filha, Eu nunca te deixarei, o meu Imaculado Coração será o teu refúgio e o caminho que te conduzirá até Deus.
On 10-12-1925 the Most Holy Virgin appeared to her, and beside her, suspended on a luminous cloud, a Child.
Dia 10-12-1925, apareceu-lhe a Santíssima Virgem e ao lado, suspenso em uma nuvem luminosa, um Menino.
The Most Holy Virgin putting her hand on her shoulder and at the same time showing a heart that she held in her other hand, surrounded with thorns.
A Santíssima Virgem pondo-lhe no ombro a mão e mostrando ao mesmo tempo um coração que tinha na outra mão, cercado de espinhos.
At the same time the Child said: have pity on the heart of your Most Holy Mother, which is covered with thorns that ungrateful men pierce it with at every moment, without there being anyone to make an act of reparation to remove them.
Ao mesmo tempo, disse o Menino: tem pena do coração de tua SS. Mãe que está coberto de espinhos que os homens ingratos a todos os momentos lhe cravam, sem haver quem faça um ato de reparação para os tirar.
Then the Most Holy Virgin said: “Look, my daughter, at my heart surrounded with thorns that ungrateful men pierce me with at every moment by blasphemies and ingratitude; you at least try to console me, and say that all those who for 5 months, on the first Saturday, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say a rosary and keep me company for 15 minutes, meditating on the 15 mysteries of the Rosary with the aim of making reparation to me, I promise to assist at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of those souls.
Em seguida, disse a Santíssima Virgem: “Olha; minha filha, o meu coração cercado de espinhos que os homens ingratos a todos os momentos me cravam com blasfêmias e ingratidões; tu ao menos vê de me consolar e diz que todos aqueles que durante 5 meses no primeiro sábado se confessarem, recebendo a Sagrada Comunhão, rezarem um terço e me fizerem 15 minutos de companhia, meditando nos 15 mistérios do Rosário com o fim de me desagravar, EU prometo assistir-lhes na hora da morte com todas as graças necessárias para a salvação dessas almas.
On 15-2-1926 the Child Jesus appeared to her again. He asked whether she had yet spread the devotion to his Most Holy Mother?
No dia 15-2-1926 apareceu-lhe de novo o Menino Jesus. Perguntou se já tinha espalhado a devoção à sua Santíssima Mãe?
She set out to him the difficulties the confessor had, and that the Mother Superior was ready to propagate it, but that the confessor had said that she alone could do nothing.
Ela expôs-lhe as dificuldades que tinha o confessor e que a Madre Superiora estava pronta a propagá-la, mas que o confessor tinha dito que ela só nada podia.
Jesus answered: it is true that your Superior can do nothing, but with my grace she can do everything; she put to Jesus the difficulty some souls had in going to confession on Saturday and asked that confession within 8 days should be valid; Jesus answered: yes, it can be within many more
Jesus respondeu: é verdade que a tua Superiora nada pode, mas com a minha graça pode tudo; apresentou a Jesus a dificuldade que tinham algumas almas em se confessar ao sábado e pediu para ser válida a confissão de 8 dias; Jesus respondeu: sim, pode ser de muitos mais

still, provided that when they receive me they are in grace and have the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
ainda, com tanto que quando me receberem estejam em graça e que tenham a intenção de desagravar o Imaculado Coração de Maria.
She asked: My Jesus, what about those who forget to form that intention? Jesus answered: they can form it at the next confession, taking the first opportunity they have to go to confession”.
Ela perguntou: Meu Jesus, as que se esquecerem de formar essa intenção? Jesus respondeu: podem formá-la na outra confissão seguinte, aproveitando a primeira ocasião que tiverem de se confessar”.
