Lúcia de Jesus
Three children — Lucia, aged 10, Francisco, aged 8, and Jacinta, aged 7 — living at Aljustrel, were on the vast plain of the Cova de Santa Iria grazing docile sheep when a lady appeared to them, all dressed in white, says Lucia. The lady told the little shepherds that they should learn to read and write and that on the 13th of each month she would appear to them at the same spot, beside an oak. On 13 October she would come down from heaven to earth for the last time to make peace in the world — and put an end to the war. All the people who did not believe in her work would be punished.

And she insists that she keeps a secret which she can reveal only on 13 October.
