Jacinto de Almeida Lopes
In the parish inquiry the first witness, Jacinto de Almeida Lopes, says that on the thirteenth of October, nineteen hundred and seventeen, "he saw small clouds of smoke, or what looked to him like smoke, rise from the ground several times above the people surrounding the holm-oak shrub, similar to the smoke of a censer at the time of incensing or to cigarette smoke. At first he thought, because he was some distance from the holm-oak shrub where he saw the smoke, that it was someone there smoking or making a fire to warm himself, but afterwards he ascertained that there was no fire of any kind there.
No inquérito paroquial, a primeira testemunha, Jacinto de Almeida Lopes diz que, no dia treze de outubro de mil novecentos e dezassete, “viu, por cima do povo, que rodeava a carrasqueira, diversas vezes, elevarem-se do solo pequenas nuvens de fumo ou que lhe pareciam de fumo – semelhante ao fumo dum turíbulo em ocasião de incensação ou ao fumo de cigarros. Julgou a princípio, porque se achava afastado da carrasqueira, onde via o fumo, que era alguém que ali estava a fumar ou a fazer uma fogueira para se aquecer, mas depois veio a averiguar que ali não havia lume de espécie alguma.
