Almost as we were leaving I met my friend Emílio Infante da Câmara, who told me he had gone to see the shepherd girls and that they had said that the war would end soon, or that it would end in eight days' time (I cannot say which). He also told me they were dressed in first-Communion “toiletes”*.

Quase no momento da partida encontrei o meu amigo Emílio Infante da Câmara que me disse ter ido ver as pastoras e que estas tinham dito: que a guerra acabaria brevemente, ou que acabaria de ali a oito dias (não posso precisar). Disse-me também que elas estavam vestidas com “toiletes” de primeira Comunhão.
