On 13 August the crowd grows, and whoever contemplates the Cova, which forms a basin among the small hills or knolls that surround it, sees a touching spectacle.
Pilgrims arrive from everywhere singing hymns, and we feel we are living some happy hours. The hour has passed and the children do not appear; the people wait impatiently when word runs over that mass of people that the administrator of Ourém had taken them away. Protests are heard, and when they are about to start breaking up, an outcry is heard and a wave of heads turns towards the sky, each one stating what he is seeing. I then look at the sky and see the clouds changing colour and running in different directions.
