English

His wife said one day to Jacinta, in his absence, telling him about it afterwards: “Oh Jacinta, tell me the secret and I'll give you my gold chain”. Francisco was not present; if anyone was, it was Lúcia. Francisco never stayed at his house and went there only once or twice. Jacinta said: “if you give me that holy picture, I'll tell you”. His wife replied: “I can't give it to you, it isn't mine, it's my niece's”. The niece said: “Oh Jacinta, do tell me the secret and I'll give it to you”. To which she answered: “Not even if you gave me the whole world”. Once, when his wife was at their house asking Lúcia questions, Jacinta joined in the conversation and said: “Our Lady came from there (and she pointed to the east) and went there (and she pointed in the direction of the Cova da Iria).”

A Jacinta disse: “se você me dá aquele santinho, eu digo-lhe”.
