The newspaper "Diário de Notícias"* publishes a dispatch from Santarém about what was done in that city with the objects stolen from the site of the apparitions (date of writing: 25 October 1917).
O jornal "Diário de Notícias" publica uma correspondência de Santarém, sobre o que se fez, nessa cidade, com os objectos roubados do local das aparições (data de redacção: 25 de Outubro de 1917).

— At 21:00 yesterday, a group of townspeople staged a parade through the city's three main streets, some of them carrying, as in a religious procession, the objects brought a few days ago from Fátima, where the famous phenomenon of the 13th of this month took place.
— Ás 21 horas de ontem, um grupo de populares exibiu um cortejo pelas tres principais ruas da cidade conduzindo alguns deles, procissionalmente, os objectos ha dias trazidos da Fatima, onde se deu o afamado fenomeno do dia 13 do corrente mês.
One of them carried the holm-oak shrub; another, with two more acting as his acolytes, the three of them got up as clergymen, carried a cross under a parasol; and lastly, some others bore a printed picture of a religious image, topped by an arch of myrtle and flanked by two lanterns.
Um dos populares conduzia a carrasqueira, um outro, acolitado por mais dois, figurando de eclesiasticos, conduziam sob um chapeu de sol uma cruz e, por fim, uns outros transportavam a estampa duma imagem religiosa, sendo encimada por um arco de mortinheira, ladeada por duas lanternas.
To the ringing of a handbell and the beat of a drum, about 100 people chanted a litany. As they were passing near the Lemos jeweller's shop, a bucket of water was thrown over them and over a civil police officer.
Ao som do badalar duma campainha e o rufar dum tambor, cerca de 100 populares entoavam uma ladainha, sendo sobre os mesmos e um policia civil lançado um balde de agua quando passavam proximo da ourivesaria Lemos.
The lady who threw the water was fined by the police, but her husband decided not to pay the fine and to make a scandal of it in court instead.

Since the said law forbids religious processions without the consent of the administrative authority, that authority had a strict duty to forbid what was staged.
Desde que a citada lei proibe procissões religiosas sem consentimento da autoridade administrativa, esta tinha a estrita obrigação de proibir o facto exibido.
This was not done, just as no one enforces the regulation and the recent ministerial order requiring commercial and industrial establishments to close at 21:00: each one closes as it pleases, one or two hours after the time laid down in the regulation, because the administrator has still not put right... his watch.
Tal não se fez assim como não se faz cumprir o regulamento e a recente portaria que manda encerrar os estabelecimentos comerciais e industriais ás 21 horas, fechando cada um a seu belo prazer, uma e duas horas depois da hora indicada no regulamento, porque o sr. administrador ainda não acertou... o seu relógio.
