Description of the Document: It is on a sheet of commercial paper, folded in half, whose four pages are filled, on 1-1v, by this document and, on 2-2v, by Doc. 75 (letter from Mariana Pinto Coelho to her aunt, the Marquiza de Ribeira, dated p.13 October 1917). The handwriting is the same in the two documents.

We are led to believe that both copies (this document and Doc. 75) were made by the Marquesa da Ribeira Grande, who signs this document and transcribes, in Doc. 74, the information about 13 October 1917 passed on by her niece Mariana Pinto Coelho.

We do not know the date of these two copies, but they are probably slightly later than the pastoral provision of 3 May 1922, in which testimonies about the events of Fátima were requested.

[1] It seems there have been apparitions of Our Lady to some children who mind sheep, over towards Torres Novas. Our Ly has spoken to the children — according to what they say, and they never contradict themselves.

There have already been 7 apparitions3, and the number of people who have gathered at the spot is astonishing; it has kept on increasing. The apparitions have always been on the 13th, and it seems Our Ly told the

The people who have been present — on 13 September 80,000 people were at the spot — do not see Our Ly, but think they see a star that appears from noon to 1 o'clock.

[1v] It is the little girls who say they see Our Lady and hear her. They see her dressed in white and gold.

[1v] As pequenas é que dizem vêr Nossa Senhora e ouvil-a. Vêem-n'a vestida de branco e ouro.

I spoke with a priest, very serious, learned and a Dr.5, who went to be present, and he told me that he had seen appear, almost on the right side of the sun, something like a star, round and white like the clouds, which moved along in the same direction, then rose and disappeared; that was all he saw.

Let us see what happens on the 13th of this month, and afterwards I shall write.

The journey there is uncomfortable, except by automobile. The apparition is in the Serra de Minde, near Fatima, a small village.

5 From the description of the phenomenon, we believe this priest can be identified with Dr. António Maria de Figueiredo, professor at the Seminary of Santarém, who on that same day, 13 September 1917, described a similar phenomenon to the parish priest of Fátima (Cf. 15). Cf. Doc. 29, of p.17 September 1917, note 35.
Cf. Doc. 29, de p.17 de Setembro de 1917, nota 35.
7 In the text: 30 Outo 1917. This is certainly an error, since the author says: [...] let us see what happens on the 13th of this month, [...]", referring to the month of October.
7 No texto: 30 Outo 1917. Trata-se, certamente, de um erro, pois a autora diz: [...] vamos ver o que se passa no dia 13 do corrente, [...]", referindo-se ao mês de Outubro.
