Pe. Dr. António Maria de Figueiredo, born 11 July 1879 at Mata (Torres Novas), aged 38, a priest with doctorates in philosophy and theology from Rome and a professor at the Santarém seminary (later a canon of Lisbon); on 13 September 1917 he saw a bright moving object in the sky at the Cova and reported it that afternoon to the parish priest of Fátima.

"Here I take the opportunity to say that on this same thirteenth, at about three o'clock in the afternoon, there came to my house, the parish residence, the Reverend António Maria de Figueiredo, most worthy teacher at the Patriarchal Seminary in Santarém, and declared to me that he saw stars in a region lower than the region of the stars, and that he came to my house on purpose to make this declaration to me"

I spoke with a very serious and learned priest, a doctor5, who had gone to be present, and he told me that he had seen something like a star appear, almost on the right side of the sun, round and white like the clouds, which moved along in the same direction, then rose and disappeared; that was all he saw.

5 From the description of the phenomenon, we believe this priest can be identified with Dr. António Maria de Figueiredo, professor at the Seminary of Santarém, who on that same day, 13 September 1917, described a similar phenomenon to the parish priest of Fátima (Cf. Inquérito Paroquial - Depoimento da segunda testemunha, AEL, Documentos de Fátima, I-1D, fol. 15). Cf. Doc. 29, of p.17 September 1917, note 35.

1 Born on 11 July 1879 at Mata, council of Torres Novas. He took doctorates in Philosophy and Theology and a bachelor's degree in Canon Law in Rome. He was ordained priest on 19 December 1902. He was a professor at the Seminary of Santarém and parish priest in several parishes, in the same city and in Lisbon. He was a canon of Lisbon Cathedral. He died on 5 May 1963 in Torres Novas.

1 Nasceu a 11 de julho de 1879, em Mata, concelho de Torres Novas. Doutorou-se em Filosofia e Teologia e bacharelou-se em Direito Canónico, em Roma. Foi ordenado sacerdote, a 19 de dezembro de 1902. Foi professor no Seminário de Santarém e pároco em várias paróquias, na mesma cidade e em Lisboa. Foi cónego da Sé de Lisboa. Faleceu a 5 de maio de 1963, em Torres Novas.
