It is almost a year since, on the thirteenth of October 1917, thousands of people were at Fátima, in the pious aspiration of witnessing the miracle which the Queen of Heaven had announced on the same days of the five previous months.

At 8 in the morning I was already at my post, next to the place of the Apparitions.

From 9 o'clock an uninterrupted rain soaked us, as if Our Lady wished to test the patience of her faithful with this small trial.

As a first blessing of her infinite mercy, no [2] harm to record, among so many people of frail health who endured it.

Near noon – God's time – the Little Shepherds arrive, Lucia, Jacintha and Francisco.

As if by enchantment the rain stops, while the Little Ones pray the Rosary, in which we devoutly join them, trembling at the approach of the Sacred Hour!

Suddenly, Lucia's voice:

– There She is, on the Holm-oak shrub.

An eternal, supernatural sensation, that of knowing the Mother of God to be near us!

Prostrate on the ground, hands raised in [2v] supplication, in the fervent contrition of human wretchedness before the divine greatness, the holiness of Holinesses!

Then I distinctly heard this sentence from Lucia: – Won't you work the miracle today that you promised me? –

And then these simple words of that predestined child, from whom I heard the sentence that destroys all doubts, clears up all the hesitation with which the learned seek to confuse the supernatural with a phenomenon of nature, an illusion that has disturbed the firmness of so many believers!

[3] Look at the Sun –

And only after that exclamation of Lucia's, like an order from Heaven, did the Queen of Angels cause that prodigious miracle to appear, that glorious Sun which illuminated her Apparition with a light that no Christian soul will ever be able to extinguish!

Four more sentences I affirm I heard: – Don't you want anything more of me today? –

And, after the question, as if repeating syllables and words which the Mother of Christ was murmuring to her from Heaven: – Cha - Chapel or Church here? –

[3v] And, for the first time, with a radiant face, and clapping her hands.

– It's Our Lady of the Rosary –

Turning again to Jacintha, and lowering her head from right to left, as if following the same direction as the Immaculate Virgin, she exclaimed:

– She went that way.

The Apparition was ending.

– É Nossa Senhora do Rosario –

Findava a Apparição.
