José Pereira da Silva Rino, a native of Alcobaça and a landowner and farmer there, and his wife Capitolina Guimarães Rino (daughter of Joaquim Ferreira de Araújo Guimarães). Friends of Luís de Vasconcelos, they told him at the Cova da Iria on 13 October 1917 that they had seen luminous phenomena in the sun there on 13 September; that day Capitolina bought a print of the three seers, now in the Fátima Sanctuary.

They were almost indignant and told me “that for them there was not the slightest doubt that it was a miracle, since they had already been there before, on the 13th of September last, and had witnessed extraordinary luminous phenomena in the sun, precisely at the hour indicated by the little shepherd girls; that the clergy were not well informed and that, if I doubted, I should wait”.
