I, the undersigned, Luís de Andrade e Silva, graduate in Theology and law of the University of Coimbra, resident at Vila Nova de Ourém, declare that on 13 October 1917 I observed the following on the heath of Fátima:

At the place where Our Lady is said to have appeared for six consecutive months there were more than fifty thousand people, more than a hundred motor cars, an incalculable number of carriages, carts, horses, bicycles and motorcycles, which had come to Fátima from almost all the Portuguese provinces, drawn by the declaration of three innocent children.

At about 12 ½ solar time, more or less, the three children arrived at the place of the apparition, despite the persistent and impudent rain that was drenching everything.

Almost all those people uncovered their heads at an order from the seers.

They prayed the rosary (5 decades) and sang religious hymns, whose chant reached me, as I was about a hundred metres away from the seers.

The rain meanwhile had stopped.

At a certain moment I hear exclamations full of admiration and amazement, and I see everyone staring at the sun with the naked eye.

Someone beside me drew my attention to the king of stars, and I made out in it phenomena which, to this day, I have never observed.

The globe of the sun, like a disc of dull silver, was spinning around an imaginary axis, and at that moment it seemed to descend through the atmosphere towards the earth, accompanied at times by an extraordinary brilliance and by a most intense heat.

The sun's rays took on the colours yellow, green, blue and purple, so they say, but I noticed only the yellow colour.

---

After a few minutes, during which these phenomena took place, no one could stare at the sun any longer, because its rays hurt the retina. Only those who witnessed these phenomena can appreciate what happened then, but they cannot describe them exactly.

A chuva entretanto havia cessado.
