I acknowledge receipt of Your Excellency's official letter no. 1165 of 29 October last, in which Your Excellency instructs me to report by whom the holm-oak shrubs were cut, one of them being the one said to have served Our Lady as a pedestal. By the time they were cut, nothing was left of these holm-oak shrubs but the trunk, because of the great crowds that gathered on the 13th of each month, all of whom wanted8 to take away a relic, so that nothing was left of them but the trunk, and that trunk can only have been 5 to 7 centimetres in diameter at ground level; it was called a holm-oak shrub because it was a shoot from the root of a holm oak, and even today such shoots are considered worthless.
