Maria Francesca Aloisi Fitipaldi, 57 years old, a native of Naples, Italy, and resident for more than nineteen years in Leiria, suffered horribly from various illnesses which made her life almost unbearable (dyspnoea, heart lesion, stomach ulcer, albumin, etc.). She could neither speak, nor lie down, nor leave the house. On 12 October 1917, at night, she saw from one of the windows of her house the crowds heading for Fátima and was very sorry not to be able to go too. Full of faith, she asked Our Lady of Fátima at least to improve her condition so that she could rest a little. Feeling sleepy, she went to bed and slept the whole night. The next morning, when she woke, she found herself perfectly well.
