Lúcia de Jesus
Yesterday we went to interview the seers. Lucia, who is the only one who speaks with Our Lady, was in the church, where she had gone with her mother to hear
Mass and receive communion. She made her first communion at 7. She is very sweet-natured. She told us — all the while playing with our hands or our lorgnettes — that Our Lady wants the rosary to be prayed every day; that we should ask much pardon for our sins, because Our Lord is very much offended; and that a little chapel should be built to her in that place. She presents herself under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary. She is dressed in white; barefoot; a white mantle over her head and a string of beads, also white, in her right hand. She announced the end of the war as imminent — the seer says “today” — and that our soldiers are coming back soon. Our Lady told her a secret, which she has been pressed to reveal but persists in not telling. She answered one man: — Our Lady told me not to tell anyone; and you are someone.

5 The author must be referring to José Rino and Capitolina Guimarães Rino, of Alcobaça, who were at the Cova da Iria that day and recounted the phenomena of 13 September 1917, with the same details, to Luís Vasconcelos, later baron of Alvaiázere (Cf. DCF, vol. 1, Doc. 28, of 30 December 1917, note 25).
6 We believe this refers to José Rino's "limousine" (cf. DCF, vol. 1, Doc. 28, of 30 December 1917, note 27).
